6 Flower Craft Ideas for Kids

Flowers have a way of inspiring the artist in all of us. If you’re looking for ways to entertain your kids this summer, here are some fun flower crafts they’ll love. Some involve creating flowers out of paper, while others use real flowers that you can pick up at a florist or get from your garden!

  • Paper Flower Wreaths

To make this craft, your kids only need to follow a few simple steps:

  • Get multi-colored construction or card paper.
  • Draw petals or flowers on each paper, and then cut those petals or flowers out.
  • Take one last uncut piece of card paper and glue the flowers together in a circle.
  • From here, you can leave the wreath on the paper, or cut out the empty space, leaving you with just the wreath circle.

  • Flower Petal Placements

This is another simple craft, which only has a few steps to it, and involves the use of real flower petals:

  • Cut out the middle of construction paper to make a “picture frame.”
  • Put the sticky side of some contact paper in the middle.
  • Have your kids put the flower petals in the middle in whatever pattern they like.
  • When done, put another piece of contact paper in the middle.

  • DIY Straw Flowers

If you have some extra drinking straws around, your kids can turn them into flowers! They just need to follow these steps:

  • Cut out circles and long strips of construction paper.
  • Fold the long strips in half, leaving a loop at the end.
  • Glue the end of the strips around the circles.
  • Glue the flowers to the tops of unused drinking straws. Paper or plastic will both do. These flowers can also go on the ends of pencils, for a fun and usable craft.

  • Sensory Bottle

Here’s a craft that involves real flowers but doesn’t require special flowers from a florist. In fact, you can even use dandelions!

  • Get a sturdy plastic bottle and fill it with water.
  • Fill the bottle with the flowers of your choice. Fit as many as you can!
  • Add fun decorations, like glitter, beads, gems, confetti, etc.
  • Seal the bottle with tape around the lid.

  • Tissue Paper Flower Bracelets

If your kids want something they can wear or give as a gift, they can make floral bracelets out of tissue paper:

  • Cut the tissue paper into circles.
  • Layer all the pieces evenly in whatever color pattern you’d like.
  • Punch a hole in the middle of the flowers.
  • Move some pipe cleaners through the middle of the flowers.
  • Add beads around the pipe cleaners and tie knots to make sure the bracelet is secure.

  • Floral Bath Bombs

Kids may not always like bath time, so make it fun for them and let them create some floral bath bombs! The typical flower used here is roses, but you can be creative.

  • Dry and crush the flower petals.
  • Mix 7 oz sodium bicarbonate, 3.5 oz citric acid, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, a few drops of essential oil, and the crushed petals.
  • Add enough water to let the mixture stick together when pressed.
  • Add the rest of the petals to some silicone molds.
  • Refrigerate the molds for 2 hours.
